Heel and Crank Duathlon

Since I've started on this fitness adventure, one of my co-workers has been antagonizing me into pushing myself further and further. While that's not a bad thing, it tends to lead me into doing things like entering a Duathlon. So, several months ago I entered the Heel and Crank Duathlon, it's a 2.5 mile run, followed by a 10 mile bike, followed by another 2.5 mile run. It's not the easiest thing in the world to do. But I f*ing did it.

So I headed out with my trusty wife at my side. Kelley really deserves a lot of credit for supporting me in all of this. She does a great job cheering me on and helping me do all of this. I really don't think I could do it without her. I got my bike set up and found a place on the racks in the transition area. If you've never experienced a multi-sport event like this, the transition area is where you go from running to biking and then from biking back to running. It can be hectic if you are competitive. If you are me however, the place is empty.

I owned the bike ride

So the last 2.5 miles was tough. I fought a calf cramp that was really annoying. But I still finished in under 1:45:00, which was my goal. This was a great event and I'm excited to see how much improvement I make next year.

My First 5k Race

Several months ago I started on a new personal quest, to get in shape. In order to do that I took up running and set a goal of competing in a 5K race. Well, this weekend I completed that goal. I competed in the Chik-fil-A race series 5K race in Decatur. It was a well put on race. My co-worker and good friend Phil Roberts ran it with me. Steven was going to run it with us, but he got a bad case of the poops. Both Steven and Phil have been extremely supportive in my efforts to get in shape and I'm extremely thankful for both of their support.

Phil and I had a great time at the race!

We didn't win, obviously, but we did complete it in under 40 minutes. We  ran an average of 12:37 a mile which isn't bad for a couple of old dudes. We had a great time and I'm so happy I've set foot on this path. I feel a thousand times better than I used to and am able to do so many things that I couldn't do before, like run a 5K.

Nice look Phil

Next is the Heel and Crank Duathalon that is a 2.5 mile run, 10 mile bike, and then another 2.5 mile run. This just might kill me.

Hospitality tent? Why yes, I think I will..

Hey, look at all the 9 year olds that beat us!

At The Beach

Well, we've been having a good time. We started off just hanging around the beach and pool, and eventually headed to the outlet stores where I bought a new watch and Kelley visited the Coach Store (of course).

Kelley went to Coach, imagine that.

We eventually went Deep Sea fishing on the Swoop II, a party boat. I've never been a huge fan of those but it wasn't bad. Melissa was the best fisher person catching the most and the biggest fish. She landed a large King Mackerel and several other fish. Chad landed a couple nice red snapper. I caught a few small fish and Kaden caught one before going to sleep. The motion of the ocean got to him and he didn't feel way.

We woke up today with rain and its supposed to do that all day long. So we will likely have to go shopping some more. We've had a good time so far and are not ready to leave tomorrow. Here are a few other pictures of random things we've done.
